Tonight at Lincoln Hall, New York-based quintet Freelance Whales will bring their alluring and blissfully eerie mix of folk, electronica and orch-pop to the Windy City.
These last few weeks Freelance Whales‘ debut album Weathervanes has really been growing on me.
And what I’ve seen so far via videos and other reviews, tells me the intricate songwriting and lush, rhythmically rushing atmosphere they create on the Weathervanes (iTunes link) gets even better in a live setting.
If that’s true, then Lincoln Hall, as one of Chicago best music venues, is a great place to experience them live because we had a blast when Umphrey’s McGee jammed and rocked the interactive stage at the UMBowl earlier this year.
To give you a taste before the show, here’s a track from Weathervanes below and a video of Freelance Whales performing for NPR’s tiny desk concert at SXSW 2010.
