As we told you before during the Open Book Blogathon, we LOVE books. And reading them is a major source of inspiration that fuels the ideas and concert experiments we do on Live Fix. So here’s how you can enjoy a live show with a great line-up at the Empty Bottle and support Chicago organization Book Bike.
If you’re new to Book Bike and it’s mission, the organization is led by Gabriel Levinson who’s been through some local civic permit drama this summer as he seeks to spread the love of reading books in and around Chicago’s public park communities.
The press release we received summed things up nicely by telling us that during his quest Levinson and Book Bike:
“have seen everything from stolen donation boxes to opposition from the city of Chicago. Earlier this summer Gabriel got into a two week tiff with the Chicago Park District, who was trying to make Book Bike purchase permits to operate in city parks. Luckily the Chicago Public Library intervened and Book Bike is now able to operate without holding ridiculous permits that would cost more money than they are worth.”
Speaking of books, we were just in Bookworks, a local independent book store in Wrigleyville, this weekend and we found a lot of great live music books that we’ll be sharing with you later.
And because live music and reading go hand in hand, I’m always excited when I have a chance to encourage live music fans to a break from the music while at festival by diving into a good book when you can. You might want to try these books for starters.
Empty Bottle show details:
The live music portion of the Empty Bottle event features the tunes Sad Brad Smith, whose music was hand-picked by Jason Reitman to write music for Up In The Air (one of my favorite films of 2009), multi-instrumentalist Adam Fitz, and Kilo Records’ newest artist and Pilsen native Stephen Paul Smoker.
The show is presented by Heavemedia and we’re also told that Levinson will be bringing the Book Bike out from storage to give away some free books during the show and you don’t want to miss that. So go support Book Bike and enjoy the show!
