Well, here it comes. Phish 3D movie dates were announced today. And here are the details (and the trailer) Phish fans have been waiting for.
As I mentioned before in my review of AEG Live’s Larger Than Life 3D concert movie, Phish fans are now only a few weeks away from seeing the band in 3D.
Today the band announced that Phish 3D will open nationwide on Friday, April 30th for an exclusive one week run.
I’m told the movie will be over two hours long and presented by Action 3D Productions in association with Network LIVE and Cinedigm Digital Cinema Corp.
There’s a whole bunch of details about the movie so here goes:
Phish 3D was filmed in October 2009 and will highlight Phish’s Festival 8 three-day, eight-set, 16-hour concert in the Southern California desert where more than 40,000 devoted fans watched as Phish combined two of their most beloved traditions – the multi-day festival and the Halloween album “costume.”
I’m also told that Phish 3D will feature the band’s first ever full-length acoustic set and their highly anticipated “musical costumes” which are concerts involving the performance of an entire album by another artist-in this case. And during Festival 8, Phish covered the Rolling Stones’ album Exile on Main St.
Phish 3D Preview Screening Info
But before the April 30th, nationwide roll-out, exclusive preview screenings will be shown in nine cities on April 20th including Boston; Burlington, VT; Chicago; Denver; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Raleigh/Durham, NC; and Washington, D.C.
In addition to experiencing this special screening, fans in attendance will take home a Phish 3Dmovie poster.
That sounds cool. I didn’t see anybody handing out Dave Matthews Band posters when I saw Larger Than Life which makes me really excited to see what the vibe is like for fans during Phish 3D.
And everything I’ve read so far promises the movie to “be a fully immersive music and visual experience, featuring state-of-the-art 3D technology, giving viewers the sense that they are not only at the event, but on stage with the band…”
Now, that’s the type of experience I was hoping for with Larger Than Life. And it looks like Phish 3D should deliver the goods by featuring fan favorites like never before seen cover songs and intimate footage of the band backstage and in rehearsals.
But will there be any fan stories or interactive experiences woven into Phish 3D? I hope so.
But we’ll just have to wait and see how Phish 3D compares to Larger Than Life.
Here’s the pre-view screening ticket info so you can scoop up your Phish 3D tickets. And so far, no ticket price info has been announced yet so I’ll keep an eye out for that and give an update later.
Tickets for the Tuesday, April 20th screenings will be available for purchase on Friday, March 26 (individual theater on-sale dates may be subject to change). More ticketing information is available at www.phish3dmovie.com.
