Tips From Two Rock Critic Pros

From an emotional perspective every show I cover feels like the first one. The rush of excitement, fear and anticipation is what makes the experience so fun and challenging.

But though the pace of my thoughts might make the show pleasurably overwhelming, I’m always wondering how this process is for other music writers and how they deal with their thoughts and emotions.

That said, when I came across this 2006 interview with pop music critics Ann Powers and Robert Hilburn I had to chance to learn how they go about their craft, and I learned that we actually share some of the same habits when covering live music. Their insight also encouraged me to see and write about live music in a fresh way.

Hey, fellow music journalists, do you have other tips or tools that help you cover live music?
