Escape To Plastic Beach with Gorillaz: Tour Dates, Live Ustream Chat

The Gorillaz concept album Plastic Beach has been coming to life in Europe this year, and now  their quest for total Northern Hemisphere domination continues as the Escape To Plastic Beach Tour looks to conquer North America this fall.

Plastic Beach has been one of my favorite albums of 2010, and I was super stoked the other night to catch the tail end of the Gorillaz 2010 European tour that’s been airing on Palladia.  As De La Soul, Mos Def and Damon Albarn were switching things up and doing their thing mixing the cartoon mythology with the live performance, I was thinking about our exploration in to Measuring Up To Mannish Boy.

And since Plastic Beach is a concept album packed with collaborators galore and rich in story and mythology, I’ve been curious to see how the Albarn and company will bring it all together to transform the album in a live setting.

And, so far, it looks like Albarn and company are doing a pretty good job of transferring the energy and mystique they created in the studio to the live show.

That said, I’m pretty excited to see what the Chicago stop will be like, 3D holograms or not.

So here’s the news about the current “partial” line up of guests that are scheduled to appear on the “Escape To Plastic Beach” North American tour, plus info about the live chat on Ustream and Facebook happening next week.

N.E.R.D. Joins Tour

N.E.R.D. has been confirmed as support for the North American dates. N.E.R.D. join the tour at Boston’s Agganis Arena and will be performing all the North American dates except Montreal, QC and Wallingford, CT.

According to the press release, the full list of confirmed artists includes Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Bashy, Little Dragon, De La Soul, Roses Gabor, Bootie Brown, Bobby Womack, Kano, Miho Hatori (to appear in Los Angeles and NYC only). We’re told that the Gorillaz Plastic Beach band , which features Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of the Clash, will only be appearing in select cities. And you can visit Gorillaz.com for a full list of scheduled appearances.

Ustream & Facebook Live Chat (with a cartoon concert character)
In the meantime, you can look forward to the interactive and virtual preview as the fictional character and bass player of Gorillaz Murdoc will be chatting live from Plastic Beach on Thursday, September 16th at 5pm EST, 10pm London BST via Ustream. It can also be viewed on the band’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/gorillaz. You can submit your questions in advance via Twitter using the hashtag #gorillazlive.
