When the "superman" suddenly turned out to be the opposite, it evokes laughter. We laugh at the failure of his ego. It is harder to feel empathy towards a conceited and arrogant person. Similarly, you would laugh if you saw a Catholic bishop raping a goat, wouldn't you? We laugh because of the inadequacy of the situation.
